Babies and toddlers are always welcome in worship services at Christ Our Shepherd, but we offer a well-equipped, staffed nursery as well. The nursery is available for children under 4 at the 8:30am, 10:50am, and 11:00am services and during the Sunday School hour at 9:40am. Our nursery staff are members of Christ Our Shepherd and well known to us. Andrea and Margaret are friendly, nurturing, and love children. They take turns week to week and are support by volunteers when needed.
Family Seating and Worship Tool Bags
Family seating is available in both the Traditional and Contemporary services to give families with children some flexibility. Situated near the front of the worship space, a carpeted area is available so children can play with some toys and move around during worship. There is also a table and chairs for those who like to draw and create. Parents are asked to sit adjacent to the children’s area, so they can attend to their children’s need and help engage them in worship as appropriate. With the help of their parents, children are expected to play/work quietly, be respectful of the space, share the toys, and be kind to one another.
Worship Bags are available at both serviced for young children. These bags contain items to help children learn the rhythm of worship and participate in concrete, age appropriate ways. It will necessitate some guidance from parents. Instructions on how to use the items are included in the bag. They are found on the black cabinet near the nursery for the traditional services and in the and in the credenza in the hallway as you enter the Fellowship Hall.
Sunday Morning Classes
We are excited to offer Whirl Sunday School for kids three years of age through fifth grade. Each week we will explore a new Bible story. Kids will learn through activities, games, crafts and a short video featuring the adventures of the animated Whirl kids. A Parent’s Page will be sent home with ideas of how you can explore that week’s story and theme as a family throughout the week.

Middle School Youth – LOGOS
Christ Our Shepherd’s Middle School program is called "Logos" and includes 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Our Wednesday night program meets from 6:15 – 7:30pm during the school year. The night includes worshiptivity classes which include: a bell choir, drama, Stix Ensemble, art class, and a middle school band. We then move to small and large groups for discussions on our lessons.
8th graders are confirmed in the spring. Middle school youth are scheduled to be acolytes and crucifers throughout their Confirmation years.
Our Sunday morning small groups meet from 9:40 – 10:40am during the school year.
We also do one outreach and/or social event a month including: service at homeless shelters, visiting homes for disabled children, and making lunches for students in the summer.
If there is something you would like to see happening with our youth that is not on the list, please contact Pastor Miriam at 770-487-8717 ext 204. We are always looking for ideas for youth to get involved!
High School Youth – LOFT
LOFT is our high school youth program that stands for "Living Our Faith Together" and meets on Sunday mornings at 9:40am and Wednesday evenings from 6:15 – 7:30pm.
Sunday morning Bible Study begins as a large group in the Youth office and then breaks up into age specific groups accordingly. We use the ELCA’s Faith Lens Bible Study and other discussions on relevant topics in the lives of High School youth.
Wednesday evening LOFT gathers at 6:15pm for food and fellowship, followed by large group programming and small group discussion and reflection time.
LOFT also participates in social events and outreach events throughout the year. Outreach events include: the clowning ministry, visits to the Atlanta Soup Kitchen, local women’s shelters, and delivering lunches for DFACS students. We also take a week long mission trip in the summer to locations across the nation. Social trips include tubing, tree climbing, and much more. Come and relax with us and get plugged into a night with fellowship, meaning, and God!
