Fellowship Event

A new adult discussion group called “Speed Bump” will be meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, 6-7:30pm.

“Let’s slow down and get real. Tackling tough topics and Christianity: sexuality, grief, suicide, racial equality, divorce. All are welcome. And we mean all, y’all!”

In May, Speed Bumps will host a Suicide Prevention Workshop which will be open to any adult, up to the class size limit of 35:

“Life is a sacred gift, and suicide is a desperate act by one who views life as intolerable. Such self-destruction is never condoned, but faith communities increasingly support, rather than condemn, the person who contemplates or engages in suicidal behavior. They acknowledge that mental and substance use disorders, along with myriad life stressors, contribute significantly to the risk of suicide. And they reach out compassionately to the person who attempts suicide and to families and friends who have been touched by a suicide or suicide attempt.” – The Role of Faith Communities in Preventing Suicide
Did you know that 84% of faith leaders had been approached by a suicidal person for help!?   And about a third of faith leaders experience a suicide death in their congregations.  COS is partnering with the State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and their suicide prevention team to host a Suicide Prevention Workshop on Tuesday, May 21, at 6 pm in the COS Conference Room.  Specialists will discuss tips on identifying warning signs and ways we – the average person – can help prevent suicide.  Class size will be limited to 25.  Please RSVP on the link below.
