We worship together at the Common area, site & time TBD.

Theme:  Ballpark Classics

Calling all campers!  Maybe you’ve been camping for years.  Or maybe you’ve always dreamed of getting into camping but haven’t ever tried.  Either way, this is the group for you!  Our COS camping ministry hosts organized camping events twice a year, in the spring and the fall, at our beautiful and very nearby R. Shaefer Heard Campground just about an hour south in West Point Lake. There is plenty of time for food, fun, and fellowship with some shared meals and other activities including a very special outdoor worship time on Saturday.  Then there is also time for just “getting away from it all” and enjoying God’s fantastic creation.  All types of campers are welcome – tents, campers and RV’s.  Get out and enjoy it all!

It doesn’t matter if you have a Class A rig, a tent or something in-between.  Just reserve your site, then come for the weekend.  We want you to enjoy the fun, fellowship, food and worship!  Hope to see you at the lake.  For more information, please contact COS Camping Ministry Coordinator, Sara Turk [email protected]

CC – Friday Fella-ship-4

Friday Fella-ship gets together on the first Friday of the month to promote fellowship among all men at Christ Our Shepherd.  Each month will feature a different activity, so the location may change as well.  Check here or in the weekly email for updates, and be aware that plans may change if weather threatens to ruin outside events.  The next meeting is:

Saturday, May 4, 2024: 411 Palmetto Road, Tyrone

In May we will meet on SATURDAY, May 4th, 9am-noon, at Palmetto Road in order to help clean up and prep the area for the Mother’s Day service at the property the following weekend. BBQ lunch to follow.

This will be a large effort, so every set of hands will be welcome! If you can’t work outside, we’ll still need help organizing the camp store a bit or even working the grill to prepare lunch.

Tools needed: chainsaws, weed eaters, shovels, limb cutters, etc.

Please RSVP to Eric Jakubowski at 858-248-5940.

Speed Bumps

A new adult discussion group called “Speed Bump” will be meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, 6-7:30pm.

“Let’s slow down and get real. Tackling tough topics and Christianity: sexuality, grief, suicide, racial equality, divorce. All are welcome. And we mean all, y’all!”

In May, Speed Bumps will host a Suicide Prevention Workshop which will be open to any adult, up to the class size limit of 35:

“Life is a sacred gift, and suicide is a desperate act by one who views life as intolerable. Such self-destruction is never condoned, but faith communities increasingly support, rather than condemn, the person who contemplates or engages in suicidal behavior. They acknowledge that mental and substance use disorders, along with myriad life stressors, contribute significantly to the risk of suicide. And they reach out compassionately to the person who attempts suicide and to families and friends who have been touched by a suicide or suicide attempt.” – The Role of Faith Communities in Preventing Suicide
Did you know that 84% of faith leaders had been approached by a suicidal person for help!?   And about a third of faith leaders experience a suicide death in their congregations.  COS is partnering with the State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and their suicide prevention team to host a Suicide Prevention Workshop on Tuesday, May 21, at 6 pm in the COS Conference Room.  Specialists will discuss tips on identifying warning signs and ways we – the average person – can help prevent suicide.  Class size will be limited to 25.  Please RSVP on the link below.
