An Advent Word from Wiese

December 3, 2025

Dear Faith Friend,

This week, as we lean into a variety of offerings for our Advent devotional series, I’m delighted to turn this email over to some thoughts from one of our COS high school (LOFT) young ladies groups.

In Christ’s hope,

Pastor Fritz

The young ladies write:

My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted. – Galatians 6:1

Gentleness is not weakness.

During this busy season of Advent, there may be a lot going on. We may even be short with each other sometimes. However, we should be reminded of Jesus’ gentleness with us and carry that on to others.

How do you react when someone is short tempered with you?

Galatians 6:1 tells us we should respond to wrongdoing with sympathy, tenderness, and mercy. In this we must also remember for ourselves to turn away from anger.

When someone does something bad to you, you should be gentle like God is with us (Matthew 11:29).

When someone is upset with you, think about your words and collect your thoughts rather than lashing out at them. Next time, someone comes forth with a bad attitude towards you, remember that everyone has their own struggles, and take a second to remember to handle it patiently because that is how Jesus would.

Let us pray. Lord, as we head into Advent, please remind us to act with patience and gentleness when responding to others. Please be with us even when we want to act with our mind and not our hearts. Remind us to speak thoughtfully without fury. Amen.
