Music

Music is a vital part of the worship experience at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, and there are numerous ways you can get involved, from vocals to instruments.  

 

Sing

Sing for the traditional services every week, August through May, as well as for special events. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm., and 20 minutes before the Sunday services.

Lead the contemporary service several Sundays each month. The group features singers accompanied by electric and acoustic guitars, drums, and keyboard on a rotating schedule. Rehearsals are Sundays before worship and Thursday evenings. For more information on how to join the band contact us at [email protected]

Engage in choral and instrumental instruction with Bible learning activities. Program on Wednesdays at 4:30 pm.

Sing anthems for worship, present a musical each spring, and sing in the Children’s Christmas Program. Practice on Wednesdays, 5:00-5:30 pm.

Engage with music and movement, and prepare to perform during worship services. Practice on Wednesdays, 5:00-5:30 pm.

PLAY AN INSTRUMENT

Lead the contemporary service several Sundays each month. The group features singers accompanied by electric and acoustic guitars, drums, and keyboard. Rehersals are Sundays from 9:00-10:30 am and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 pm. 

Lead the contemporary service once a month. The week prior to the second Sunday of the month, the group reherses once during the week and before the Sunday service.

Play violin, viola, cello, or string bassstrings to accompany liturgical music and worship. Rehersals are Wednesdays from 5:50-6:15 pm. 

Play brass music with trumpets, French horns, trombones, bass trombone, euphonium, saxophones, and tuba. Accompany the Sanctuary Choir during festival services. Rehearsals are on Sundays, 7:00-8:00 pm during the school year.

Play Eb, Bb, alto, and bass clarinets during worship and on special occasions. Rehearsals are on Sundays from 12:45-1:45 pm, with lunch served at 12:15 p.m. 

Play piccolo, Eb, C, alto, and bass flutes during worship, notably at bi-monthly services for healing. Rehearsals are on Mondays, 7:00 to 8:00 pm, during the school year.

ring handbells

Ring 5 octaves of Malmark handbells and 5 octaves of Malmark choir chimes, plus Petit & Fritsen Flemish handbells. This handbell choir is made up of experienced ringers. Rehearsals are Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00 pm. 

Ring handbells. Music reading is helpful but not required, and no previous ringing experience is expected. This flexible handbell group rehearses Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00 pm. 

Prepare anthems for worship and learn fundamentals of music and bell ringing. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 4:30-5:00 pm.

Play Malmark choir chimes and learn basics of music reading and ringing. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 4:30-5:00 pm.
