Christ Our Shepherd Advent Calendar 2019
Daily Advent Reflection from Benya Spruck
When I was a young girl living in Pennsylvania, the Christmas Eve service was held at our church at 11 PM. My grandparents, parents, brother, great aunts, great uncles, aunts, uncles and cousins all attended. We only lived a few blocks away from St. Peter’s so we always walked there, even in the snow. My cousin Gail and I sang in the Junior Choir. It was a really big deal for us because at Christmastime the Junior Choir got to sit in the front row of the choir loft in front of the Senior Choir members. We loved being front and center and sang our hearts out through every Christmas carol, especially Joy to The World. To this day, it is my very favorite carol and it brings back many memories of my family and the love we shared, and it still brings tears to my eyes. Gail and I kept waiting and watching the clock to strike twelve so we could whisper Merry Christmas to each other at “just the right time.”
Recently I saw a tee shirt with the saying BElieve in THE GOOD with the emphasis on the brightly colored capital letters. While we are waiting and watching for Jesus and the good news, let’s try to not only believe in the good but BE THE GOOD and spread JOY to THE WORLD, not just at Christmastime, but every day, all year long.
A simple act of kindness, however insignificant it may seem, can make a huge difference and bring joy beyond measure. It’s always “just the right time” to be kind.
