Christ Our Shepherd Advent Calendar 2019
Daily Advent Reflection from Linda Volckmann
It was Christmas, 1968, and the song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” was on the radio. And the line, “…if only in my dreams”, brought sudden tears to her eyes. They were engaged before he left on that flight to Viet Nam for a year. In those years there were no phone calls home, or Facetime, etc. It was just waiting out the year with lots of prayers. But a wedding was being planned for 6 months following his anticipated return, so lots of preparations were also taking place. Missing, hoping, lots of praying, but also planning . A lot like Advent. We miss a time when there will be no more anger, hurt, illness and, of course, death. We hope for that time to come. We pray to our Father to help us to live lives that He would have us live. But we continue to prepare for that time when He will come again to renew the world with His peace.
Dearest Father: Help us through this season of Advent to remember we again await your coming. While we know you through the ministry of your Son over 2,000 years ago, we yearn to be in your presence every day. Amen.
