Advent 2019: Jesus on the Move at Publix

Christ Our Shepherd Advent Calendar 2019

Jesus “on the move” at Publix

Daily Advent Reflection from Debra Neu

I didn’t have to look far to experience Jesus “on the move” in my life after my workout one Saturday morning. But, that day was different. Even with my best pair of sneakers on, sometimes it’s hard to catch up and see Jesus “on the move” when you’re having a bad day. Wouldn’t you know it! God’s Grace would be revealed while in the check-out line at the Fayetteville Publix over a couple of years ago. With a cart filled with groceries, my “bagger”, Michael, asked if I needed help out to my car. I reluctantly agreed, knowing this could possibly slow me down. While on our way out to the parking lot, Michael openly shared his interests, school classes he was taking and the struggles he’s been having with depression/anxiety due to Autism. How could I rush off at this point? Jesus was “on the move” at work helping both of us. Little did I know, with His perfect timing, this moment uplifted me more than Michael! I stopped to open up my heart and provide encouraging words and thanks to Michael for his assistance that day.
Our friendship has grown during my weekly Publix shopping visits and I’m so thankful to God! On occasion, you’ll even see Michael with me at COS. I’m proud to acknowledge he’s always had a welcoming experience and is encouraged by everyone he meets. I’ve just recently gifted, Michael with his own study Bible so he (along with us) may continually be filled daily with God’s Love, Hope and Encouragement through His living word.
Please, let us be gently reminded to give ourselves (and others) an early Christmas gift this Advent season and Stop, Look and Listen. Stop. Slow down your hectic holiday pace. Look. Be present in the moment and truly seek out Jesus “on the move” in your daily life. Most importantly, Listen. W.A.I.T. (why am I talking) and be genuinely engaged in what someone else is saying before sharing your own thoughts. You’ll be so grateful you did!
