Proverbs 4:25-26 (NIV)
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
Advent season has arrived and the major words that fill my head are preparation and anticipation. My heart however, is pulling me in the direction of focus. I struggle with distractions. Now that I am a mother, I am determined even more to keep the “focus” on the true meaning of the Advent season, for myself and my children, just as my parents did for me. Somehow they figured out the delicate dance of Santa while simultaneously teaching us that, most importantly, Christmas is the the birth of Jesus!
As I put the word “focus” in the BibleGateway app, Proverbs 4:25 popped up. Yes, Proverbs is in the Old Testament, meaning before the birth of Christ. But Solomon left us with some great wisdom, urging us to “fix” our eyes on what is ahead. And my goal is to give our Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus, my focus.
Let us pray, Lord thank you for ALL of our many many blessings. Please help us to remain focused on this truly joyous season of celebrating you sending us your Son. May we enjoy all this season brings including the anticipation and excitement, but keep our eyes also fixed on the true meaning. Thank you for loving us as you do. In Your name-
Amen
