Doctor says I have bronchitis.Word From Wiese Cough Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church April 29, 2026 Peachtree City Georgia

Many of you have suffered through bronchitis before, but this is my first time. “Coughing up a lung,” was a complaint I didn’t resonate with before.  But now I do.

So, this WFW is a short one.

But two little silver linings possible out of this stretch:

  1. Never take for granted the millions of God-designed bodily processes that function correctly every day. Scientists tell us hundreds of billions to trillions of cellular and metabolic processes go off without a hitch and we feel A-OK. Whether it’s a bad paper cut, allergies, wondering if your head will pop off in the midst of a hacking fit, or an affliction that shows up on your doorstep, let them remind us to count our daily blessings for all that goes right in our amazing bodies. We often take them for granted. The Lord fashions us with miraculous bodies.
  2. Secondly, when a health challenge clutches us, let it be a moment when our empathy for others grows. While I’m struggling now in what many says is a two-week journey, I fully realize many folks battle chronic issues or life challenges that grip them far more deeply and darkly than this. I pray God will always remind me to wonder how people are doing in their battles and pray for God-given energy while we offer human encouragement. Through sickness, God might be growing us to live more deeply the Romans 12:14 way, to “rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.”

All for now.

I write on this rainy Tuesday morning. So may these showers knock down the pollen and remind us of our baptisms! (Congrats again to our six wonderful confirmands!)

In Christ’s hope,

Pastor Fritz

Questions for Reflection:

  1. How might the Lord offer you healing today? In what area of your life?
  2. What’s functioning well in your body this week? How does that please you and inspire gratitude?

Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
