“And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.”
Luke 2:1, 3-5

Joseph had no choice. He had been commanded by the first Emperor of Rome that he be counted. Living by faith, trusting God, knowing the precious child Mary carried, and how far they had to go, Joseph made provisions for Mary and himself and set out. It is an 80 mile journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Living by faith, Joseph and Mary made their way to Bethlehem and finding no room at the Inn, found a humble stable where the baby Jesus was born and “wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in the manger”. A message for us all to live each day in faith, trusting God is in charge.

Prayer: Dear heavenly father, may we travel each day trusting in you. Amen
