God Comforting Through Music
An Advent Word from Wiese
December 10, 2025
A video of Bradford the Dog cracked me up. Check out Bradford’s utterly contented face in the picture. Situated
in his owner’s lap between her two strong arms while she plays the piano, Bradford is happy as can be. (If you use Instagram, check out “kara_baldus” for the heart-warming and hilarious compilation).
For me, Bradford’s delightful all-is-right-with-the-world visage is a symbolic snapshot of how God uses music delightfully this Advent season. COS is blessed with so many musical offerings to uplift our spirits similarly to that of Bradford: the Moravian Love Feast this Saturday night and Sunday morning (what friend will you invite?), the creative 9:45 service and Hops & Hymns this past Sunday, traditional Advent hymns, special music woven into these daily Advent emails, the COS Yule Log video, and the list goes on.
Our appreciation of music, often cradling God’s scriptural promises of hope and comfort, finds rootedness in the way God designed the first Advent and Christmas.
After all, did not Mary sing a hymn in response to the angels startling news that she would be favored mother of Jesus? Did the angels not share a glorious heavenly anthem with the shepherds on that first Christmas Eve?
My wish for you this Advent journey, faith friend, is that you find yourself frequently cuddled in the arms of your master, just like Bradford. That you feel surrounded by the Lord’s close embrace, like Bradford feels secure on his owner’s lap. That you feel alive, secure, loved, and delighted with God’s music of promise and beauty in the air.
In Christ’s hope,
Pastor Fritz
Let us pray: Gracious and Loving God, as we move through this Advent season, tune our hearts to the music of your grace. Just as Bradford rests securely in the arms of his loving owner, help us to rest in the warmth of your embrace. Let the melodies we hear carry your promises of hope, comfort, and joy deep into our souls and then into our encouragement of others. We ask this in the name of the coming Christ, our Savior and Song. Amen.
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace among those whom he favors.” Luke 2:14
