meal-time prayerFourth of July patriotism.

Church camps.

Picnics.

How do we combine these 3 themes we’ve been experiencing at COS this past week into one WFW?

Well, let’s first take the patriotic tune of Yankee Doodle. Then let’s add some church camp song lyrics.  And then we’ve got a fantastic and fun prayer we can use at any holiday or summertime picnic . . . or maybe even our own supper table.

Even though we’re not together, can you sing it with me?  Give it a shot!

“We thank you Lord for happy hearts
For sun and rainy weather.
We thank you Lord for this our food
And that we are together.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Lord.
Thank you, thank you Father.
Thank you, thank you for our food.
And that we are together.
Bump bumpeedy bump bump.  Amen!”

LuAnne and I will be singing that prayer before some meals as I serve as the chaplain at Camp Luther this week.  Plus, our kids who attended Lutheroad, Lutheridge, and Lutheranch will have some new ones to teach us as well.  I look forward to learning from them more ways we can enjoy meals together in joy and gratitude.

Gratefully,

Pastor Fritz

Questions:

  1. What’s the prayer you or your family use most often as a meal-time prayer? (If you have an extra minute right now, would you email it to me please? I’d be curious to know)
  2. How would you explain to a friend the value of praying at meal times?

Let us pray.

Dear God, thanks for giving us our “daily bread.”  Help us receive your gifts with glad and generous hearts.  Thanks for the gift of prayers, some of our own hearts and some from the creativity of others, that help us express our gratitude to you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
