Lunch Lady Extraordinaire

04 August 2021

Dear Friends in Faith,

One of the “God’s Work, Our Hands” ministries that brings so much joy, energy, and impact is our Summer Sack Lunch Program. Check out this little video interview with Jayne Troy, our amazing “Lunch Lady” who pulls COS together for this amazing effort:

If you prefer to read some highlights of Summer Sack Lunch Outreach, here is Jayne’s written update: “The continuing support for the Summer Lunch Program by members of Christ Our Shepherd is overwhelming and inspiring! This summer was all about reconnecting: hugs, smiles, constant chatter and prayer. Yet our purpose was never forgotten…to make sure all our families received their lunches.

An average of 208 children were fed every Monday, 1245 lunches were made, 1558 sandwiches were provided (high school children receive two sandwiches) and 16 drivers with 20 helpers drove 9 routes for 6 weeks. There are many to thank: all the volunteers (40-45) who showed up Monday mornings to make, pack and deliver lunches, church members who donated food items or money, our kitchen cookie bakers: Kathie Manes, Carol Talbot, Janet Stronach, Joni Siepert, Connie Earle, Pam Gould, Madelyn Lee, Judy Owen, Judie Thompson and Margaret Aldredge who provided 2,932 delicious chocolate chip cookies, Thrivent who donated a $250 gift card to help purchase cheese and turkey, Publix who donated a $250 gift card for bread, and Pearson Farms who provided fresh peaches weekly. In addition, our amazing neighbors and friends, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and St. Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Church brought chips, drinks and energy working alongside COS members every Monday!

A special thanks to the Social Services Ministry, Megan Morris and Melanie Kreutzer for their energy, enthusiasm and dedication!
GOD’S WORK, OUR HANDS”

Thanks Jayne! Thanks all COS volunteers! Thanks be to God for allowing us, year round, to do God’s Work with Our Hands in fantastically diverse ways.

In Christ’s hope,
Pastor Fritz
