O Lord, Hear My Prayer
Word From Wiese
January 28, 2025
Friends in Faith,
Today I invite you to take advantage of the blessing of prayer.
These are challenging days for our country and world. Likewise, many of you are going through life seasons which include worry, stress, and uncertainty. So, I invite you to take a healthy break in your busy routine today and spend some time with your heavenly Father, who listens, comforts, and blesses.
The first opportunity is to click this video below and hear Psalm 102:1 sung beautifully.
Also included in our red hymnal as #751, you’ll hear “O Lord, hear my prayer. O Lord, hear my prayer. When I call, answer me.” Using the Taize method of simple repetition, you’ll enjoy about 3 minutes of this lovely chant guiding you to speak and listen to the Lord. Share with God your burdens and hopes for your family, yourself, our nation, and the world. Be with the Lord in prayer in this special time.
Secondly, I invite you to an Evening of Prayer tonight from 5:30-6:00 PM.
I know many of our COS disciples face prior commitments of youth programming or choir practice. We regret the conflict, but it’s the time that worked. We will represent each other on a variety of important discipleship fronts! But if you’re available, join Pastor Morgan Hay and me over at First Presbyterian Church (206 Willowbend Road) for 30 minutes of singing, scripture, prayer, and poetry that will hopefully give everyone a chance to be with other friends in faith, obeying Jesus’ call to “ask, seek, and knock” on behalf of peace and justice for all of God’s children. After the formal service, there will be an additional 15 minutes where you can light candles or write prayers at prayer stations.
Finally, while there are so many beautiful prayers for our times on social media, I leave you with this short Prayer for Peace from our Evangelical Lutheran Worship Book, page 63.
“Almighty God, all thoughts of truth in peace comes from you. Kindle in the hearts of all your children, the love of peace, and guide with your wisdom of the leaders of the nations, so that your kingdom will go forth in peace and justice and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of your love, through Jesus Christ, our Savior, and Lord. Amen.”
In Christ’s hope,
Pastor Fritz
