PEACE
“Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.”
Hebrews 12:14
This week we light the candle of Peace. In a season filled with expectations and demands, we are called to slow down and be attentive to the quiet work God is doing within us and among us.
Scripture reminds us that peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of God’s life-giving Spirit. Hebrews challenges us to pursue peace intentionally, to seek reconciliation, understanding, and compassion in every part of life.
Christ’s coming can unsettle us. It unsettles because the babe in the manger is the very same God who calls us to love our enemies and to care for those who persecute us. Finding common ground with a loved one offers its challenges in today’s world, let alone with one’s enemy. Christ’s coming seeks to and indeed mends these wounds if only we have ears to listen and hearts willing to do the hard work of peace-making. Seeking peace unsettles, and in doing so It asks us to release old wounds, relinquish assumptions, and trust God’s faithfulness in uncertain times. When we pursue peace, we step into the work God is already doing in the world.
May Christ’s peace lead us, shape us, and restore us.
God of Peace, still our restless hearts. Teach us how to pursue healing and unity. Let your peace dwell within us and flow through us, so all may know your comforting presence. Amen.
