In these WFWs, I try to cover a variety of topics, touching on following Jesus, life at COS, humor and more.   If you have topics you think would make for helpful Wednesday letters, give me a shout.  But for today, I’m so delighted to share Pastor Miriam’s update on our COS Preschool.   This past year was a hard one for our Preschool with a variety of challenges and we owe Pastor Miriam a debt of gratitude for her investment of time and caring leadership to help set a bright path forward!

Preschool logoWhat beautiful weather today!! Stunning!! Or so the forecast says for this third week of September. This is Pastor Miriam.  Before I go further, let me say I appreciate the strong kind words of Pastor Fritz about my involvement with the special preschool of Christ Our Shepherd.

In the spring, Colleen Ferris announced her well-earned retirement as the Director of the Christ Our Shepherd Preschool, which has remained well-respected in our community since the early 1990’s. I cannot say enough good things about Colleen! For more than 20 years, Colleen has devoted her heart, spirit, and energy to caring for preschoolers, their families, and staff. Always a student herself to stay on top of things and always an advocate for children, Colleen has served well.  Colleen, with her smart, detailed, kind dedication accomplished so much and deserves our praise and gratitude! THANK YOU, COLLEEN! JOB WELL DONE!!

The forecast  weather-wise for this week is delightful. Yet, in the last six months since Colleen retired, I confess I worried about the forecast of our long-beloved COS Preschool. Thankfully, through the Preschool Board, Interim Director Penny Kahley, along with Colleen, God brought us to a bright forecast for the future of the COS Preschool!! God led us to APRIL PETERSON.

April Peterson, Iowa-born, is married to Larry Peterson, a mother of ten, and a woman of rich faith. As the newly chosen elected Director of Christ Our Shepherd Preschool, April brings a strong work-background, including experience in administration, business finance procedures, scheduling, software training, communications, and much more. Each job she has held in the various places her husband’s work has moved them, has built her skills, and honed her strong, positive, encouraging people skills. These things and much more make April a great fit for the role of the COS Preschool Director. As a mother of ten, her love for and knowledge of children and their education, care and development is keen!

Ever since April accepted the position of Director of COS Preschool, I have heard over and over again good things about April and her leadership. She’s a go-getter and a quick study. She is already bubbling with ideas for the future of this beloved COS Preschool. “April is very personable, and her vision is spot on with what we want. She’s a great fit and we like her.” So said Penny Kahley, the Interim Director/lead teacher, and Lynn Winters, a long-time teacher.

THANK YOU, April! Thank you, Preschool Staff and Preschool Board. Praise the Lord! Also, thank you COS Council and COS Personnel Committee for the special interest taken in favor and support of the COS Preschool. There is so much to celebrate!
