Did Jesus take a week to rest and reflect?Word from Wiese Taking a Few Days Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church Peachtree City Georgia

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

We celebrate how the risen Jesus appeared to his disciples in a variety of ways the first glorious Easter day. But according to John 20, Jesus waits a week to connect with them again. A week later, Thomas is back with them, and they keep the story going when Jesus appears to them behind locked doors and Thomas is able to touch Jesus’ scarred hands.

Friends, I’m going to take a page from Jesus. After celebrating Easter, I’m taking the week off since my teaching wife, LuAnne, has a few days off on school spring break. So I offer this very quick and light WFW today.

We’re headed to West Point Military Academy in New York to visit my nephew Jack and niece Kate who are fourth and second year cadets there, respectively. Then we’ll spend a few days in NYC, enjoying LuAnne’s brother David and his family.

I’m not sure what Jesus did between those first two Easter Sundays. Maybe a powerful combination of rest and reflection after the rigorous and profound Holy Week.

Might you too take some time this week, or sometime soon, for not only rest with your loved ones, but deep reflection on what we’ve experienced this Easter with Jesus.

In Christ’s hope,

Pastor Fritz

Reflection Questions:

  1. After the joy and intensity of Easter, where in your life do you most need intentional rest and space to reflect on what Jesus has done?
  2. Like Thomas, how might Jesus be inviting you this week to move from doubt, distraction, or busyness into a deeper, more personal encounter with Him?

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, in our Easter celebration, amid our excitement, help us also to find time to slow down and rest and reflect in your presence. May we model Jesus who took time away so he could also connect with us deeply.  Thank you for the diversity of holy time you grant us as we live as your Easter people. Renew our hearts, draw us closer to you, and guide us in the days ahead. Amen.
