Today’s message to you is a light-hearted one. A full-hearted one. A heart-warming one.The Power of a Wave Word From Wiese July 22 2026 Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church Peachtree City Georgia Recently, we’ve taken on some heavier topics in these WFWs. So time to change it up.

Click below for the powerful story of how a 4-year-old boy named Roman lifted the lives of neighbors and, in the process, his whole neighborhood. He didn’t use money or political leverage. Just a smile and a wave from his front yard. Smiles and waves which evolved into positive win-win connections.

Jesus’ Great Command calls us to a lifestyle leaning into the benefit of our neighbors.

Fun thing is that when we lift them up, we begin to feel ourselves rise as well. That was the case for Roman. And can be the case for you and me too. Here are a few scripture passages that call us:

Romans 15:2 (NIV): “Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.”

1 Thessalonians 5:15 (ESV): “Always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.”

Matthew 5:46-47 (NIV): Jesus challenges followers to step out of their comfort zones: “If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others?”

Seems like little Roman has discovered that waves and greetings can go a long way in accomplishing God’s work. How about you?

  1. Who is one neighbor, coworker, classmate, or stranger whom God may be inviting you simply to notice, greet, or encourage this week?
  2. How have small acts of kindness (a smile, a wave, a conversation, or a word of encouragement) made a lasting difference in your own life?

Let us pray:  Gracious God, thank you for kids like Roman. Thanks for reminding us that your love is often shared through the simplest acts of kindness. Open our eyes to the people around us, and give us hearts that are quick to smile, greet, encourage, and serve. Help us to see every interaction as an opportunity to reflect the love of Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
